May is National Pet Month, and if you ask us, it’s the perfect excuse to spoil your best furry friend a little extra.
Whether your dog is the adventurous type or the cuddle-on-the-couch type, there are so many fun ways to celebrate the bond you share.
Here are a few of our favorite ideas to make this month unforgettable:
1. Throw a Treat Party
Break out their favorite What's Barking treats and let them munch on a little bit of everything. Even more fun if you have a paw-ty at the park with their favorite furry friends from the neighborhood.
2. Plan a Special Adventure
Take them to the park, the beach, or even on a mini hiking trip. New smells, new sights, and lots of tail wags guaranteed.
3. Give Them a Pup Spa Day
A warm bath, a good brush, a little paw balm, and maybe a new bandana to finish it off — your dog will be looking (and feeling) like a million bucks. Even if they don’t like the idea at first. Paw-rents always know best in this case. 😂
4. Teach a New Trick
Whether it’s mastering “roll over” or finally nailing that elusive "high five," learning new tricks keeps their mind sharp, and it’s a great excuse to hand out more treats.
5. Plan a Doggie Date Night
Set up a cozy night in with their favorite snacks (and yours!) and snuggle up for a dog-friendly movie marathon. Bonus points if it features lots of animals or adorable critters.
Our pups love Pup Academy, Despicable Me, The Secret Life of Pets, Bluey, and even watching dogs playing on YouTube!
6. Visit a Pet-Friendly Café or Store
A low-key adventure can be just as exciting. Swing by a dog-friendly café for a pup cup or let them pick out a new toy on a special outing.
7. Make a Paw Print Keepsake 🐾
Capture a memory you'll cherish forever with a DIY paw print craft. It's simple, sweet, and makes for a perfect keepsake to remember this special month.
Here’s how:
- Grab some non-toxic, pet-safe paint and a sturdy piece of paper or canvas.
- Gently press your pup’s paw into the paint, then onto the paper to create their one-of-a-kind print.
- Keep some treats handy (like their favorite What's Barking flavor!) to make the experience fun and rewarding.
- Let the print dry, then add a date, their name, or even frame it for an extra-special touch.
The most important thing is simple: time together.
No matter how you choose to celebrate, the best gift you can give your dog this National Pet Month is quality time with their favorite person.
Here's to making memories that last a lifetime!
