The Ulti-Mutt Summer Travel Checklist for Your Pup

Traveling with your dog takes a little extra prep. This checklist will help make sure your pup stays happy, healthy, and ready for adventure!

1. ID Tags, Microchip Info, & Travel Documents

Double-check your pup’s ID tag has current info, and make sure their microchip details are up to date.

Be sure to confirm local requirements ahead of time and have both digital and physical copies handy - many places, airlines, and hotels require proof of vaccinations, health certificates, and other documents.

2. Leash, Harness, & Waste Bags

Bring your regular walking setup of leash, harness, and plenty of waste bags, plus a backup leash just in case one goes missing or breaks. Consider a hands-free leash if you'll be juggling luggage or coffee on travel days. Waste bags are easy to forget, but essential for those quick pit stops in unfamiliar places!

3. Healthy Snacks

No trip is complete without snacks, and the same goes for your pup! Our 1.5 oz Treats bags are made with real, delicious ingredients you can feel good about giving and are perfectly sized for pockets, carry-ons, and crossbody bags. They're ideal for rewarding good behavior on the go - from polite airplane manners to patient road trip potty breaks.

PS - Our limited-edition Summer Celebration flavor is packed with summer vibes and tail-wagging goodness!

4. Water & Portable Bowl

Staying hydrated is key, especially on warm days or during travel when routines change.

Pack a collapsible or travel-friendly bowl for easy access to water at rest stops, airports, and hotels. Some pups need reminders to drink in new environments, so having water readily available helps keep them healthy and comfortable.

Bonus: Check out our hydration tips blog for more ways to keep tails wagging and tongues hydrated.

5. Favorite Blanket or Bed

New places can feel overwhelming for dogs. Having a familiar blanket, bed, or towel from home helps them feel secure, whether they’re settling into a hotel room, a rental house, or Grandma’s guest bedroom.

The familiar scent and texture provide comfort, reduce anxiety, and encourage restful downtime between adventures.

6. Toys, Chews, or a KONG (Travel Hack!)

Entertainment is essential to help your dog stay calm during flights, road trips, or long waits.

For a KONG travel hack:

  • Fill with sticky, long-lasting layers like peanut butter, pumpkin purée, or a mix of both.
  • Add some kibble or small treats to keep them engaged.
  • Freeze overnight and store in a plastic bag before heading out.

It won’t stay frozen, but it’ll stay cool and satisfying long enough to keep them busy during takeoff, delays, or downtime.

Safe Travels & Happy Tails 🐕

Wherever you’re headed, a little planning makes all the difference. With the right essentials (and the right treats), you’ll both enjoy the journey just as much as the destination.
